Two great works for voice and string orchestra are joined with a reimagining of early Italian lute music. Catherine Wyn-Rogers sings Respighi’s Il Tramonto, a dramatic scene for mezzo-soprano that contains all the lushness of his most famous scores in concentrated form, to an Italian translocation of Shelley. Then on to the midnight world of one of Benjamin Britten’s most famous works, the Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and Strings. Magnus Walker and George Strivens play the thrilling combination of the two instruments with an orchestra of musicians from the Royal Academy of Music. Mark Rogers conducts what will be an exciting evening of music.
